Sneha Singh overcame a rocky start to carve out a massive eight-shot victory in the second leg of the Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour in Kolkata on Friday.

The Hyderabad golfer produced a brilliant burst through the middle of the final round at Tollygunge Club to card seven birdies against four bogeys on the day, the WGAI said.

The 20-year-old’s 3 under par 67 was the week’s best round as she totalled 4 under 206, eight shots ahead of DLF’s Vani Kapoor (74), who had four bogeys and no birdies in the final round.

Sneha, a former national champion, started the final day with a one-shot lead, but both she and Vani bogeyed the first, third and fourth holes.

However, Sneha recovered with birdies on holes five, seven and eight to turn in level par. In contrast, Vani had only pars and from being one behind at the start of the final round, she was four behind Sneha after the first nine holes.

Pulling away

On the back nine, Sneha birdied thrice in a row from hole 11 before dropping a final shot on 14. She quickly made up with a seventh birdie while Vani dropped a shot on 11 and parred the rest.

Frustrated with her putts not falling, the experienced Vani had no birdies through the round. Her 74 gave her the second-best aggregate at 4 over 214.

Jasmine Shekar, a two-time winner last season, shot a 1 over 71 that included three birdies on the trot from holes 11 to 13. Overall, she had four birdies against five bogeys to finish third on 8 over 218.

Anvitha Narender, who played in the final group with Sneha and Vani, was 2 over for the day and had two birdies, two bogeys and a double on the par-3 eighth to finish in a tie for third with Jasmine.

Kriti Chowhan (73) and Vidhatri Urs (71) were fifth and sixth at 221 and 225.

Amandeep Drall, who had two disappointing days with 79-79 made up with a superb 2 under 68, one of the only two under-par scores on Friday to total 226 for seventh place.

First leg winner Rhea Purvi Sarvanan (74) was eighth, while Durga Nittur (77) and Ravjot K. Dosanjh (83) were tied for ninth to complete the top 10.

Shweta Mansingh (75) and Khushi Khanijau (81) were tied for 11th and Neha Tripathi (80) was T15.

The result took Sneha to the top of the merit list, which she topped in 2023, after two events with Rhea Purvi second and Jasmine lying third.
