Karnataka’s Avani Prashanth retained the All India Ladies Amateur Championship title with a convincing display in the 2022 final at the Royal Calcutta Golf Club Kolkata.
Facing Punjab’s Mannat Brar, team bronze medallist at the Ahmedabad National Games, Avani repeated her triumph achieved at the Noida Golf Course last year with by a 3&2 scoreline on Sunday.
In the 2021 final, the 2017th edition of the Indian Golf Union-organised championship, she beat Rajasthan’s Kritu Chowhan 4&2.
At the RCGC, Avani, 16, was never headed by Mannat and was in fact five up in the 36-hole match-play final before closing out the showdown three up with two holes to go.
Successful year
It caps a year the Bangalore teenager also played the Women’s Amateur Asia Pacific Championship in Pattaya last month and the Augusta National Women’s Amateur in March this year.
A three-time winner on the domestic women’s professional tour, Avani is a member of the India team to next year’s Asian Games at Hangzhou in China along with Aditi Ashok and Tvesa Malik.
In the semi-finals held on Saturday, Avani beat statemate Rishika Muralidhar 4&3 while Mannat prevailed over another Karnataka player, Saanvi Somu 3&1.
Sunday’s result makes it a double for the second year running as she topped the preliminary stroke-play section of the 108th All India Ladies as well.

Quarter-finals: Avani Prashanth (Kar) bt Vidhatri Urs (Kar) 2&1; Rishika Muralidhar (Kar) bt Janneya A. Dasanniee (Guj) 2 up; Mannat Brar (Pun) bt Sinjini Mukherjee (WB) 5&3 and Saanvi Somu (Kar) bt Nishna Patel (Maha) 3&2.
