Bangalore amateur Saanvi Somu birdied the final two holes for the second day in a row to climb into a share of the lead in the first Leg of the Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour in Jamshedpur on Thursday.

Saanvi, who birdied holes 17 and 18 on Wednesday to finish with a face-saving 75, repeated the feat in round two at the Golmuri Golf Course, the WGAI said.

The outcome this time though was a bogey-free 3 under par 69 and the amateur star, who has finished runner-up at the Hero WPGT, returned the day’s only clean card to total level par 144 alongside day one co-leader co-leaders Rhea Purvi Saravanan (72-72) and Durga Nittur (72-72).

Saanvi’s score on Thursday was also the only sub-par round of the tournament so far.

Rhea and Durga both carded their second straight level par rounds at Golmuri which is hosting a Hero WPGT event for the first time, but witnessed contrasting fortunes.

Wild ride

While Rhea was consistent with just one birdie after an early bogey. Durga went through a run of eight holes from the third to the tenth with four birdies and four bogeys.

She then bogeyed 15 and birdied 18 to finish with five birdies and as any dropped shots.

Round one joint leader Sneha Singh had a forgettable day. The 2023 Order of Merit winner had six bogeys, two of them on par-5s, against just two birdies for a 76 that saw her drop to sole sixth.

Amandeep Drall and Jasmine Shekar fired their second straight rounds of 73 each to share fourth place on 2 over 146s.

Ananya Garg (75-74) was seventh, while Neha Tripathi (75-75) was eighth. Anisha Agarwalla (77-75) and Lavanya Jadon (75-77) making her pro debut, were tied for ninth.

A total of 20 players made the cut which fell at 158.
