Amandeep, Vani in battle for honours at Classic leg of Hero WPGT

Amandeep Drall and Vani Kapoor go into Friday’s final round of the Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour’s fifth leg tied for the lead at the Classic Golf & Country Club near Gurgaon.

Amandeep (74), whose last win on the WPGT was at the nearby Golden Greens course a year ago and Vani (75) tallied 1 over par 145s, the WGAI said.

Vani has been in rousing form this year with two runner-up finishes and one win under her belt already.

On another tough scoring day in Nuh, Amandeep gave away shots on holes 15 and 16 for her 2 over par 74 and got to 1-over 145 for 36 holes, while Vani had an early birdie against four dropped shots on the day.

The lead pair was one shot clear of third-placed Rhea Jha, who had two birdies to close the front nine and two bogeys on the back nine in her card of level par 72.

Neha Tripathi had an action-filled round with an eagle, four birdies, four bogeys and a double bogey in her 72. She was tied fourth with amateur Ceerat Kang (72) and Gauri Karhade (71) at 4 over 148.

Gauri (71), who won her maiden title back in 2019 but has not won since, shot one of only two sub-par rounds of the day, the other coming from Durga Nittur (71), who was sole ninth. Yaalisai Verma (72) and Ridhima Dilawari (73) were tied for eighth.

Lavanya Jadon (72) landed one of the two eagles of the day and was tenth, one place ahead of Order of Merit leader Sneha Singh (75).

The cut fell at 159 and 24 players, including three amateurs made it to Friday’s final round.
