Amandeep, Sneha lead charge at Hero WPGT season-opener

Amandeep Drall, second on the 2024 Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour Order of Merit, leads the field in the opening event of the new season at Golmuri Golf Course in Jamshedpur.

Jamshedpur, which comes on the WPGT map for the first time will see 28 professionals play for a purse of Rs. 12 lakh. The field also includes amateurs Anaahat Bindra and Saanvi Somu, the WGAI said.

Saanvi has in the past come close to winning on the HPWGT and she was runner-up in the ninth leg in 2024.

Amandeep and 2023 Order of Merit winner Sneha Singh, who both have conditional status in Category 16 on the Ladies European Tour for 2025, will be the leading contenders.

Order of Merit winner in 2024, Hitaashee Bakshi, who also earned status on the LET, is skipping the first two legs.

Solid record

Amandeep won once and finished runner-up twice last season in 14 starts. After having missed out on LET action for most of 2024, she is looking at getting some valuable tournament play before heading overseas this year.

She is among the reserves for LET’s opening event in Morocco next month. Sneha and Hitaashee Bakshi are also among the reserves currently.

The Jamshedpur field has several winners from the 2024 season, including Jasmine Shekar, who won two of the last three legs, Sneha (legs 2 and 4), Anvitha Narender (leg 8), and Amandeep (leg 5).

Other seasoned pros to watch out for are Neha Tripathi, Seher Atwal, Shweta Mansingh and Khushi Khanijau.

Two players will make their professional debuts: Lavanya Jadon, who was runner-up in the eighth leg last year as an amateur, and Jia Kochhar.
