Amandeep takes two-shot lead in Jaypee Greens opener

Having snapped a seven-month long unproductive streak with her end to end win at Bangalore three weeks ago, Amandeep Drall took a two-shot lead on the opening day of the fifth leg at the Jaypee Greens on Wednesday.

Racking up six birdies against three bogeys for a 3-under 69, Amandeep  led Pranavi Urs (71) and Vani Kapoor (72) with some comfort in Greater Noida on the day.

Winner of the second and third the Hero WPGT legs of the season, Pranavi returned the day’s only other sub-par round with an eagle and four birdies against three bogeys and a double.

Looking good

At one stage, Pranavi looked set for a low score having holed her second shot for eagle on the first hole and then adding three birdies by the sixth to go to five-under. 

Thereafter, the birdies dried up and she bogeyed thrice with the double bogey in between against one further gained shot to finish with a 1-under 71.

Amandeep began with birdie but dropped a shot immediately. Three birdies and tw bogeys meant she would make the turn on 2-under par 34.

On the back nine, Amandeep birdied twice but dropped a shot as well to finish with a solid card.

Early lead

Vani Kapoor was the early clubhouse leader on level par 72, which was overtaken by Pranavi and then Amandeep, who was playing in the final group.

Vani’s round balanced two birdies against as many bogeys.

Gaurika Bishnoi, Ridhima Dilawari and amateur Hunar Mittal were tied for fourth place on 1-over 73s.

Gursimar Badwal and Neha Tripathi on 74d were tied for seventh place with Ishvari Prasanna and Saaniya Sharma in shared ninth on 75s.
