Amandeep builds four-shot cushion over Gaurika at Golden Greens

Amandeep Drall briefly lost her overnight lead but by the end of the day was back in the saddle with a four-shot advantage over Gaurika Bishnoi in the fifth leg of the Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour at Golden Greens Golf Club on Thursday.

Leading from day one, Amandeep opened her third round with three bogeys in a row but came back strongly as the expected challenge from Gaurika faded away, the WGAI said.

After 54 holes, Amandeep was 9-under 207, and Gaurika on 5-under 211. Khushi Khanijau (72-71-69) with the best card of the day moved to third place at 4-under 212.

This event which carries a purse of Rs. 19 lakhs is a four-day event, so the battle continues at the links-style Golden Greens course.

Amandeep’s 73 included two birdies after the three early bogeys. In contrast, Gaurika, who shot 66 on the second day, faltered on the back nine with three bogeys for a 75.

Gaurika had two birdies against five dropped shots. Tied with Amandeep after the front nine, she would finish four back on the day.

Solid reply

After the early setbacks, Amandeep steadied the ship and also picked up birdies on holes nine and 15.

Gaurika birdied the second to take the lead but two bogeys before the turn allowed the overnight leader back on top.

On the back nine Gaurika lost her rhythm and dropped three shots as to fall four behind as Amandeep picked up one further shot.

Hitaashee Bakshi (71) was lying fourth on level par 216, while Neha Tripathi (71) moved into tied fifth with Seher Atwal (72) on 3-over 219.

Ridhima Dilawari (71) was sole seventh at 4-over 220 and Shagun Narain (72) eighth on 5-over 221.

Amateur Lavanya Jadon (74) was tied ninth with Agrima Manral, Ananya Garg (73) and Jahaanvie Walia (74) on 7-over 223.
