All India Ladies Amateur semi-final line-up at RCGC decided

Defending champion Avani Prashanth of Karnataka will meet state-mate Rishika Muralidhar in the semi-finals of the 108th All India Ladies Amateur Championship in Kolkata on Saturday.

In the other semi-final of the IGU-run championship, Mannat Brar of Punjab lines up against Karnataka’s Saanvi Somu at the Royal Calcutta Golf Club.

Two sets of matches – the round of 16 and quarter-finals – were held on Friday with favoured players moving up.

The only notable exit in the quarters was Women’s Asia Pacific Amateur Championship team member and best-placed Indian, Nishna Patel of Maharashtra, who was ousted by Saanvi 3&2.

Close games

Avani, who won the 2021 championship at the Noida Golf Course first saw off Assam’s Snigdha Goswami 3&1 in the pre-quarters before prevailing over state-mate Vidhatri Urs 2&1 in the quarters.

National Games team golf medallists Karnataka saw one entrant fall in the pre-quarter-finals, Jasmine Shekar eliminated by Bengal’s Sinjini Mukherjee who prevailed 1 up in a tight battle.

Mannat Brar first saw off Maharashtra’s Ananya Garg 1 up in the round of 16 and then beat Sinjini by a comfortable 5&3 margin in the quarters. All the other matches were close affairs.

The round of 32, the first lot of knockout matches, was played on Thursday.
