Austria beckons Ahmedabad after Audi quattro Cup finale

Kaushal Anand and Sumit Pant, representing Team Ahmedabad, walked away with the honours in the India finals of the Audi quattro Cup 2019 played recently at the Prestige Golfshire Club near Bangalore,

In a closely contested tournament, Team Ahmedabad racked up 47 points to beat the challenge of the other finalists from across the country.

Team Bhubaneswar comprising of Satyajit Mishra and J.B. Pany bagged the runners-up spot with 36 points while Team Mumbai consisting of Satish Gupta and Aditya Patel finished third with 34 points to complete the podium.

Dr Anand and Sumit Pant will now represent India at the world finals of the Audi Quattro Cup ay Kitzbühel in Austria later this year.

Best-ball format

The finals were played on the green-some Stableford format where both players drive the ball, select the better-placed of two and alternate before holing out.

The Audi quattro Cup 2019 saw more than 750 golfers across India competing towards securing a slot for the India finals.

“This year, the Audi quattro Cup celebrates its 29th anniversary globally. I am delighted that the India edition of the tournament is celebrating its 12th year which also coincides with the completion of Audi’s 12 years in the country. My heartiest congratulations to Dr. Anand and Mr. Pant for winning this much sought-after title,” said Rahil Ansari, Head, Audi India.

The Audi quattro Cup has been an annual event since 1991 and has grown into the largest amateur tournament series in golf. In more than two decades, over 1.5 million amateurs have taken part in the tournament across 43 countries and 645 events.

Some 80,000 players participate per year and the world final is hosted at famed courses around the world like the Belfry in England, Fancourt in South Africa, K Club in Ireland, Mission Hills in China, the Earth Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai and the spectacular Quivira course in Cabo san Lucas in Mexico.
