The second edition of the Ahmedabad Open gets underway at the Kensville Golf and Country Club on Tuesday, with a good mix of players competing for top honours.

Dominant SECL Chhattisgarh Open winner in New Raipur last week Shaurya Bhattacharya is amongst a host of top names from the domestic men’s tour including Manu Gandas, Udayan Mane, Om Prakash Chouhan, Rashid Khan and others, the PGTI said.

IndusInd Bank is the presenting partner for the Rs 1 crore event and Gujarat Tourism the associate sponsor, which will put the spotlight on the Kensville course, one of the state’s top venues.

Besides the Indian professionals, a number of overseas players are in the packed 134-strong field.

They include a strong contingent from Bangladesh featuring Jamal Hossain, Badal Hossain, Md Akbar Hossain and Md Somrat Sikdar.

Sri Lankans N. Thangaraja and K. Prabagaran, Koichiro Sato and Dominic Piccirillo of the US, Nepal’s Sukra Bahadur Rai and Subash Tamang, Italians Michele Ortolani and Federico Zucchetti, Czech Republic’s Stepan Danek and Uganda’s Joshua Seale add to the depth of the field.

The local challenge will be led by Varun Parikh, Dhruv Suri, Arshpreet Thind and Aditya Raj Kumar Chauhan. The lone amateur in the field is Gujarat-based Islam Khan.

Welcome return

Said PGTI chief executive Amandeep Johl, The professionals are looking forward to their return to the top-class Kensville GCC after a gap of six years.

“The 2025 season has got off to a cracking start with some breathtaking performances in the first three events. We now expect the competition to become even more intense with every passing week.”

Places of historical, cultural and environmental significance surround the Kensville course at Dev Dholera near Ahmedabad.

It was also home to European Challenge Tour’s Gujarat Kensville Challenge from 2011 to 2013, which once featured five-time major winner and LIV Golf star Brooks Koepka of the US.
