Aditi Ashok turned in a solid 2 under par 69 to total 6 under 136 after day two of the Amundi Evian Championship in Aix-Les-Bains on Friday.
Aditi, who has not finished in the top 10 in her previous 34 Major starts the most by an Indian, shared seventh place after 36 holes at the par-71 Evian Resort Golf Club, four shots behind event leader, South Korea’s Somi Lee (67-65) on 10 under par 132.
On Friday, Aditi had two birdies and one bogey on either side of the course, picking up shots on holes 11, 17, two and seven while bogeying 14 and six after starting from the 10th tee.
Aditi’s best showing at a major was at last year’s Evian Championship, a tie for 17th place. This is her 19th cut in 35 majors, the most by any Indian golfer, male or female.
Lone contender
This week Aditi is the only Indian in contention as Diksha Dagar narrowly missed out on making the field but will play the AIG Women’s Open later this month.
Somi Lee had an eagle and six birdies to lead the field with the round of the day at the Evian Resort.
Coming into Aix-Les-Bains, Lee won the Dow Championship in a playoff over fellow Korean Jin Hee Im.
Australia’s Grace Kim was just one shot off the lead after a solid 68 while Jennifer Kupcho of the US carded a steady 69 to total 8 under 134.
Four players besides Aditi ware a further shot behind on 6 under 136 including Ireland’s Leona Maguire, Thailand’s Jeeno Thitikul, Japan’s Rio Takeda, and Australia’s Gabriela Ruffels.
In all, 74 players made the cut which came at 2 over par 144.
